This year we made our way back to Vålerbanen for VACN's annual car meet, same place and same vibe. There was a car exhibition, track sessions, and prizes for the best cars in the show and shine. I entered mine for judging, but the competition brought their A-game and I did not make the cut this time.

The real story of the day was my friend's car. He has put serious hours into prepping it for track duty and today was supposed to be the payoff. It was not. I came geared up to shoot photos of him on track, and before I even got to the photo spot his car had already given up.

We think it is either a bad ECU or a sketchy harness. The throttle body would not stay steady. It kept jittering at zero throttle, which made the car stall constantly. We tried swapping in an identical throttle body from another Mk4 VW on site, with the same result. Frustrating, especially after all the work he has put in.

Turnout on the show side was lighter than usual, most likely the weather. It started raining the day before and did not let up until midday. A few solid builds still made it out, with a good mix of clean dailies, track builds and show cars.

The quality is not perfect. Most are frame grabs from iPhone 16 Pro Max footage, and the first few shots in each set are from my Sony A6000, so it is a bit of a mix.

It was not the weekend we hoped for, but that is part of the game. Sometimes the weather is off, the ECU flakes out, and the plan goes sideways. We showed up, we wrenched, and we will be back.
